Overview

Issue

Before the adoption of interactive displays, Berg & Bosch College relied mainly on conventional whiteboards and TV screens. Lessons were static, teacher-centred, and lacked opportunities for interaction. Teachers often struggled to involve students, and the technology available did not reflect the school’s ambition to digitise learning.

Solution

After exploring different options at the IPON education fair in 2024 and testing several displays on-site, the college chose BenQ RP7504 Google EDLA-certified interactive displays. With 37 units installed in both campuses, the technology offered features that matched the institution’s needs and facilitated lesson delivery and student collaboration.

Result

Berg & Bosch College now has a modern, flexible, and interactive digital learning environment. Teachers are pleased that they can engage students easily as lessons have become more dynamic. The IT staff also benefit from efficient device management through Device Management Solution (DMS) and Account Management System (AMS).

About Berg & Bosch College

Berg & Bosch College is a Dutch special school that prepares students for their future by offering diploma-oriented education in an environment tailored for those who do not thrive in mainstream schools. The college provides secondary special education (VSO: Voortgezet Speciaal Onderwijs) to students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and/or related behavioural challenges.

In this college, the guiding principle is to support inclusive education by focusing not on limitations but on each student’s capabilities. To achieve this, the college provides smaller class sizes with a limited number of students, structured guidance, and a predictable environment to support both learning and personal development.

Berg & Bosch College operates in two locations, Bilthoven and Houten. In both colleges, education is delivered by enthusiastic and highly trained teams who specialise in supporting students with special needs.

About the Project

Berg & Bosch College provides secondary special education to 210 students, supported by 70 staff in its two campuses in Houten and Bilthoven in the Netherlands. Classes are intentionally small (10–12 students) to reduce sensory overload and make sure each student receives individual attention. Teachers rotate between classrooms while students remain in place, which necessitated personalised teacher logins and consistent technology in all classrooms.

For years, digital learning was limited to projections on TV screens in Berg & Bosch College. However, the management team recognised that this setup lacked interactivity and did not align with the school’s vision of preparing students with modern skills.

Seeking the Ideal Education Solutions

The adoption process began when the ICT team visited the IPON education fair in February 2024 to explore solutions and saw demonstrations of the latest models at the BenQ booth. This was followed by on-site demos at both locations, giving teachers the chance to test the RP7504 Boards and experience their features. Feedback was unanimously positive.

Having tried out other brands, the team concluded that BenQ stood out for reliability, versatility, and ease of use. While price was considered, the decisive factors were seamless Google integration, a user-friendly interface, interactive teaching features including AI tools, and management solutions.

“With the NFC tag I can log in to any Board in seconds. My bookmarks appear immediately in Google Chrome, and I can access lesson materials from Drive. EZWrite helps me structure lessons, evaluate with students, and even use AI to transform images into editable text.”

BenQ Solutions Facilitate Interactive Special Education

37 BenQ RP7504 interactive displays were installed: 21 in Houten and 15 in Bilthoven. The technology is now employed by teachers in nearly every lesson and subject as it supports active engagement of the students.

The RP7504 BenQ Boards’ key features that the staff value most include NFC login, EZWrite whiteboarding, split-screen mode, Google integration, connectivity options, wireless casting, and the DMS/AMS management solutions.

NFC Login is essential to the teachers as they switch classrooms frequently. They can simply tap their NFC tag on the NFC reader built into the interactive displays to log into their BenQ account on any Board, instantly loading their cloud storage, personalised settings, bookmarks, and files. The NFC tag eliminates the need to re-enter credentials on each Board, saving teachers time and keeping their account data secure.

Using the EZWrite whiteboarding, teachers prepare lessons on their laptops, open them directly on the Board, annotate over materials using the built-in Floating Tool, or let multiple students write and draw on the Board simultaneously during quizzes or games. Teachers also convert handwriting to text for better readability, use subject-specific tools such as maths features that are powered with AI and can convert handwritten formulas and shapes into clean, readable content, and integrate educational games to keep students engaged. In addition, using the split-screen mode, they can teach more efficiently as it allows them to use two apps side by side; for instance, they can whiteboard on the left while browsing other resources on the right, and even drag and drop images, text, and links directly onto EZWrite to streamline the lessons. “Versatile and easy to operate,” summarised one teacher.

BenQ Boards were the first in the industry to achieve EDLA certification, making them the very first large-format displays with fully integrated Google services. Teachers can directly access their cloud storage, apps, and bookmarks to launch their content quickly and securely in any classroom.

The elimination of long cables in the classrooms and the practical problems they pose – like tangling, damage to cords and devices, and difficulty in finding the right cable – is another advantage. The USB-C connectivity and wireless casting via InstaShare 2 allow teachers to connect their laptops to the Boards without the hassle of getting lost in cable clutter, saving them time when starting or ending lessons.

The RP7504 BenQ Boards also feature the exclusive ClassroomCare® technology, providing classrooms with additional layers of protection against health risks. These Boards help prevent disease transmission through their TÜV-, SIAA-, and SGS-certified germ-resistant screens, interfaces, and pens. The specialised air quality sensors also alert teachers to open doors or windows or switch on the ventilator when levels of CO₂ or other harmful particles rise to keep the students away from sluggishness.

The ICT team of the institution finds the Device Management Solution (DMS) quite convenient and reliable. They can control updates, apps, display settings, Wi-Fi connections, air quality, and power consumption centrally and remotely on all 37 devices. With DMS, the team easily creates and manages policies to be pushed onto all the Boards, specific groups, or individual devices.

“We use DMS to manage all our devices across two locations. Teachers log in with an NFC tag and immediately see their own background and apps. This has made it much easier for new colleagues to get started without delay.”

Outcome

Berg & Bosch College’s mission to digitise its classrooms was fulfilled through the implementation of BenQ RP7504 interactive displays. Lessons are now more interactive and students more involved, and teachers have the right tools that adapt to their teaching methods so they can Teach Their Way.

ICT workflows have become more straightforward, and the institution has built a solid foundation for future digital learning. Teachers are also satisfied with the improvements and the new possibilities that the Boards have unlocked. Staff agree the Boards are reliable, versatile, and resilient.
