EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS, 1 JULY 2025 – BenQ, a global leader in display solutions, is aware of recent concerns regarding the nano-silver antimicrobial coatings used on BenQ Board touchscreens. We welcome this focus on safety and would like to provide clear, science-backed information to address these concerns.
Let’s be clear: BenQ’s germ-resistant touchscreens are independently certified as safe by the internationally recognised TÜV Rheinland, the Society of Industrial Technology for Antimicrobial Articles (SIAA), and the Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS). These are not mere claims; they are verified certifications based on rigorous testing under ISO 22196 standards for antimicrobial activity and safety.
Why antimicrobial surfaces matter for interactive displays
Interactive displays are among the most frequently touched surfaces in today’s meeting spaces. Contaminated surfaces can contribute to the transmission of infectious diseases, especially in high-touch environments such as office environments, according to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
That’s why BenQ integrates nano-silver antimicrobial technology directly into display surfaces for many of our BenQ Boards. Silver nanoparticles have been used safely for decades in medical, consumer, and industrial products thanks to their proven ability to neutralise bacteria and other pathogens on contact.
How BenQ provides safe germ-resistant technology
The claim that nano-silver coatings are inherently unsafe reflects a misunderstanding of the science. While it’s true that free silver nanoparticles in high concentrations may pose risks if misused, BenQ’s solution is certified safe by TÜV Rheinland, SIAA, and SGS.
The amount of nano-silver used, its fixed application, and its inert nature under normal office use make it both safe and compliant with global safety standards. Any suggestion otherwise is incorrect and ignores the extensive testing and regulatory approvals BenQ has obtained.
The method used to apply this coating is:
To back up the above claims, BenQ Boards with antimicrobial coating have passed stringent evaluations by:
These certifications aren’t optional; they are essential, especially when designing products for corporate environments, where employees’ health and safety come first.
BenQ MeetingroomCare – Health-focused technology for meeting rooms
When it comes to the health and safety of users, there’s no room for guesswork. BenQ’s antimicrobial displays are backed by data, supported by science, and certified safe by global health and safety bodies.
BenQ is proud to be the first and only display provider to offer a range of interactive displays with certified antimicrobial screens designed for meeting spaces. These screens are standard on BenQ Board Pro RP04 and BenQ Board Master RM04 series.
