Message from our President

The sustainability of an enterprise depends on robust foundations built upon economic, environmental, and social governance. Continued practice is also essential to pave the way for sustainable growth in the future. BenQ is committed to developing our corporate vision of "Bringing Enjoyment 'N' Quality to Life." The diversification of our business portfolio has led BenQ to expand beyond 3C products into the four fields of L.I.F.E., aiming to provide consumers with products and solutions that enable them to Live better, Increase efficiency, Feel healthier, and Enhance learning. We also recognise the importance of fulfilling corporate responsibilities while pursuing profits and growth and strive to bring a positive influence to society and people.

On the economic front, many countries enforced city-wide lockdowns in 2020 to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. This resulted in a surge in online purchases of computers and monitors due to the widespread adoption of remote work and online learning. While the LCD market experienced growth during this period, demand for projectors in commercial, education, and exhibition applications was postponed or delayed. Nevertheless, BenQ remained steadfast in its development strategy, focusing on professional, high-end, and high-value-added products to meet the demands of home and professional customers. One example of this was our continued emphasis on the development and sale of professional displays, Esports displays, and large high-end displays in the LCD monitor segment. We were pioneers in introducing the latest EyeCare technology and securing TÜV Rheinland's eye comfort certification, further solidifying our leadership in the global market for eye-friendly displays. In the LCD monitor segment, BenQ aimed for sustained and steady growth by pursuing innovative applications, functional differentiation, and specialised uses. Notably, BenQ projectors maintained their position as the best-selling DLPs worldwide for 12 consecutive years. Our team diligently focused on understanding customer requirements and successfully built a strong following in the home market through our proprietary and world-leading CinematicColor™ colour management technology. Simultaneously, our active investments in commercial and high-end engineering applications allowed us to extend our lead in terms of global market share.

Key gains were made in product design in 2020. The integration of different types of conferencing equipment to create a unified user experience and generate more co-creation activities by the BenQ Uni UI application software was recognised with the "iF Design" international design award. The Gaming Monitor ZOWIE XL series for PC gaming, designed to provide gamers with a smooth, responsive, and crystal-clear gaming experience, won the "G-Mark" and "Golden Pin" awards. Additionally, the mobile projector GS2, the i965L/i960L/V6000/V6050/V6000i/V6050i series of home projectors, the GK100 projector, and the Smart TriColor Laser TV i985/i980L series all collected a host of design awards that reflected how BenQ observed and responded to the needs of projector users. The 4K professional photographic post-production display and the MindDuo 2 Plus smart posture reminding desk lamp won the "Taiwan Excellence" award as well. The unique design approach of BenQ has not only captured the attention of the international design community on multiple occasions but also takes the environment and energy efficiency into account, receiving Energy Star certification for its products.

In terms of environmental management, BenQ products continued to embrace the "Total Product Life Cycle" mindset. The design and development phase takes into account the environmental impact of future product use and transportation, incorporating energy-saving design, packaging reduction, and ease of recycling. Refinements at every stage contribute to the creation of green products that are environmentally friendly and have a reduced environmental impact. For instance, the BenQ WiT smart desk lamp opted for eco-friendly green materials instead of the cheap plastics commonly found in most desk lamps. Even when plastic was necessary, environmentally damaging spray painting was avoided. Instead, the focus was on maintaining purity in design to protect the planet and meet stakeholder expectations. BenQ undergoes regular third-party verification to enforce environmental management and encourages employee participation.

In the social aspect, we believe that people are a company's most important asset and are crucial to business growth. For this reason, BenQ strives to create a safe and relaxing working environment. We also actively invest in diverse education and training options. The cultivation of innovation and competitiveness among employees provides the driving force for the company's sustained growth. In 2020, BenQ was once again named 'HR Asia Best Companies to Work For in Asia' and also received the 'WeCare' employee care award, making us one of the eight companies to be honoured with this award. These accolades demonstrate that BenQ employees appreciate the efforts made by the company in talent cultivation and the creation of a positive working environment.

Since 2016, BenQ has received the "Taiwan iSports" mark for sporting enterprises from the Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education every year. We have continuously innovated in sporting equipment, facilities, and activities to provide employees with a 5-star workplace where they can "Work Smart, Play Hard." Actual measures include the innovation of a sofa zone, 5-star hotel quality lunches, toasters, espresso machines, and soda machines that offer healthy, delicious food and a great environment. To promote work-life balance, we organise fun and healthy activities such as family days, happy hours, sporting activities, positivity classes, and arts and cultural activities. Every effort is made to create a happy enterprise that takes care of employees' physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led us to enhance existing arrangements through innovative methods and digital technology. Activities that required face-to-face contact were redesigned into online versions using digital tools. Examples of these include the distribution of epidemic prevention packs—practical epidemic prevention trinkets given as giveaways, an online kite painting competition, a cinema-at-home movie appreciation event, online KTV, an online sports carnival, online positivity seminars, online health seminars, and more. Employee benefits actually increased, and employees found the unprecedented design of activities to be novel and enjoyable. The use of digital technology expanded employee participation in all affiliated enterprises, fostering greater networking among employees.

To ensure the sustainability of the company and align with international trends, BenQ actively responds to several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Technology is used to promote the development of quality education. In Taiwan, 300,000 teachers and students benefit from our interactive design each day during instruction on campus. Features such as double windows, germ-resistant screens, and EyeCare solutions deliver a high-quality teaching and learning experience for teachers and students. BenQ also places particular emphasis on promoting good health, well-being, and gender equality. In terms of sustainable operations, efforts have been made to implement clean water resources and affordable clean energy into BenQ's routine business operations.

BenQ is a brand centred around human beings. We believe that design and technology should meet the genuine needs of people in order to perform their best functions. By extending our focus from individuals to society, we can better deliver fair value as an enterprise and bring positive influence to society. We believe that if something matters to you, it matters to us. Therefore, we hope that the BenQ philosophy can reach every corner of Taiwan, realising the truth, goodness, and beauty of a technology-driven life.

Conflict Minerals Policy

BenQ supports the global prohibition against the conflict minerals1 and corporates with suppliers to conduct investigation to avoid procurement of conflict minerals 2 and minerals that directly or indirectly finance for the benefits of illegal armed groups from conflict-affected regions such as DRC and adjoining countries3.

Remarks:
1. Research findings from international NGOs (Non-Government Organisation) such as SOMO and Enough indicate that the Democratic Republic of the Congo, scene of the deadliest conflict since World War II, remains the most dangerous place in the world to be a woman or a girl—in significant part because of the international demand for electronic products that requires minerals found in the eastern Congo. Companies that produce electronics containing conflict minerals from eastern Congo have a responsibility to ensure that their business dealings are not inadvertently helping to fuel atrocities.
2. Conflict minerals: Tantalum, Tin, Tungsten, Gold and Cobalt.
3. DRC and adjoining countries: Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan ,Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
