Pantone sees color as a form of communication and expression, which inspired them to start the Color of the Year program in hopes of encouraging new ways of communication and expression with color. The program engages the design community and highlights the relationship between color and culture. As a longtime color solutions provider for creators in the industry, Pantone promotes this program as an opportunity to further understand the power color has. You can find inspirational color palettes and associated products in the Pantone Marketplace!
For the 2026 Color of the Year, Pantone has chosen Cloud Dancer (PANTONE 11-4201), a lofty white that reflects a growing desire for calm, clarity, and quiet focus in an increasingly noisy world. An airy, billowy white, Cloud Dancer evokes a sense of serenity and openness, encouraging reflection, creativity, and a fresh perspective.
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, described Cloud Dancer as similar to a blank canvas—symbolizing new beginnings and the opportunity to peel away outdated thinking, making space for imagination and new ideas to emerge.
“At this time of transformation, when we are reimagining our future and our place in the world, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is a discrete white hue offering a promise of clarity. The cacophony that surrounds us has become overwhelming, making it harder to hear the voices of our inner selves. A conscious statement of simplification, Cloud Dancer enhances our focus, providing release from the distraction of external influences.” - Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute
Cloud Dancer represents tranquility, balance, and visual clarity. With its expansive and light-filled presence, it creates a sense of openness and calm, offering a clean foundation that enhances both creative environments and visual storytelling. Subtle yet expressive, Cloud Dancer supports moments of focus and creativity while allowing other colors and details to stand out.
Pantone has created a series of curated color palettes featuring Cloud Dancer, each designed to highlight different moods and creative directions while maintaining a sense of airiness and harmony. These palettes demonstrate how Cloud Dancer can function as a versatile base color—either standing on its own or supporting richer tones across design, photography, and digital workflows.
Pantone offers a range of products and services to help creative professionals define, communicate, and utilize color. All of these are based on a system created by the Pantone Color Institute, known as the Pantone Color Matching System. This system was developed to provide universal reference to a world of color, ensuring greater accuracy and consistency. It forms the backbone of Pantone’s “color as a language” approach because anyone can refer to the color matching system and incorporate it into their work.
This system is why professionals look for monitors that are tested and approved by Pantone to be as color accurate as possible. At BenQ, we take great care to make sure AQCOLOR monitors are perfectly in tune with Pantone standards across their entire color matching system. All of our monitors are Pantone Validated, factory-calibrated, and Pantone SkinTone Validated, designed to depict human skin tones with the utmost realism.
Pantone Connect Premium provides access to over 15,000 Pantone colors from a host of devices, including your smartphone. It helps ensure consistency and accuracy in branding, fashion, and product design. Pantone Connect Premium works as a service suite with a subscription that includes a web portal, mobile app, and integration with Adobe Creative Cloud apps via plugin extensions. New colors, such as Cloud Dancer, become available via Pantone Connect Premium as they’re added by the Pantone Color Institute.
